Thanksgiving in Heflin

We were in Heflin for the Thanskgiving holidays. I had not planned to be there all week but I flew back into Atlanta from San Fransisco on Sunday with a broken foot and couldn't drive home. Tom flew back into B'ham and had to work, so I just stayed with Mom and Dad. We had a wonderful time on Turkey Day with some of mom's family and some of dad's family members joining us. And of course, Santa Claus came to visit again this year! Thank you Uncle Garey for always making the girls smile when you visit as HO HO! We have so much to be thankful for and we enjoy spending time with our family!

Santa's toy parade!

Santa has made his way to Tuscaloosa's University Mall. He arrived with a parade of toys. All children were asked to bring a toy to donate to the Angel Tree. There was a marching band (which was very loud in the mall), Frosty and Rudolph, and of course Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Emily was lucky enough to be the first in line for a Santa hug! We did not sit on his lap just yet since the line was too long and Emily has a lovely swollen spot on her noggin (she hit the metal door at church)
She had so much fun and knows what she wants for Christmas. Of course, who knows if she will actually tell Santa-we may have to write it down for him. She just gets WAY too embarrassed and shy to speak!

School picture and some updates too!

Emily had her school picture made at the end of October. She picked out her outfit all by herself (I was very impressed). Emily also had her 3 year checkup at the end of October. She is growing on schedule (38 inches tall and 33 lbs). She is having some digestive issues so we are taking her to a pediatric GI to see what we can do to help her out. Today she had to have a barium X-ray. This is a test that required her to drink this "lovely" chalky liquid while they watched on a flouroscopy machine. She was NOT happy about this and cried most of the time. As long as she was off the table, she was happy (as you can see in the picture). They will let us know the results when we visit the doctor in B'ham next week. The radiologist said that he didn't see any major issues so that is a relief. We are leaning toward a dairy allergy but we'll see! Prior to going to the doctor today, Emily got Strep throat. We were in Birmingham to meet my parents on Sunday and she randomly vomited on 3 occasions. Thinking it was reflux (there was no fever and she was acting normal) we proceeded with our day. On the way home, I called the doctor to see if we should go in to the after hours clinic and she agreed that would be a good idea. By the time we left, she had a fever of 102! By the next morning, she was back to normal and had a blast during her "sick day" at home with mom!

Well, that is pretty much how we have been spending the last few weeks-doctor appointments and regular life. Hopefully the posts will be more fun through the Holidays

Happy Halloween!

What a fun Halloween season we had this year! Emily was really into the holiday which made it a lot of fun getting ready for the big day. We started out letting her decorate a little pumpkin with one of those Mr. Potato Head decorating kits

She wanted to be Handy Manny for Halloween but we compromised with her being a doctor. She soon couldn't wait to be a doctor and we talked about it daily. I did let her have a Handy Manny costume to wear around the house, which she did-for 3 days and nights! She loves her tool set and fixing things around the house

Once she had on her doctor costume she had to take care of everybody. She checked on mommy and daddy, puppy and kitty cat. She is so compassionate that the doctor costume fit her perfect (she is also so used to seeing doctors lately, that she really wants to be one!)

We traded all of her candy in to "The Great Pumpkin" who brought her a wonderful new Go Diego game for the Wii. She did get to eat one piece before she "put it out for the Great Pumpkin". We actually just gave it away to the trick or treaters that came later in the evening. She had no idea she was passing out her own candy!!
